Battlefield 3 - a real bargain!

Amazon UK have recently slashed prices on several big Xbox 360 titles including Skyrim, and MW3. One of the titles to get the price cutting treatment is Battlefield 3.

I've played all the recent Modern Warfare titles and MW3 has received quite a lot of stick over it being little more than a re-hash of the same old stuff. It does look and play great but yes, it is more of the same.

The Battlefield franchise has never seemed to attract the same amount of consumer attention as Activision's Modern Warfare and that is a shame. The single player campaigns have often been singled out for criticism but , after MW3, such criticism cannot be justified in any way.

Graphics wise this game is simply stunning. Ever wanted to take off from an aircraft carrier? - You'll be doing just that and more in the single player campaign which holds its own very well.

It is multiplayer where Battlefield shines and, in my opinion, is leaps and bounds above what MW3 can offer. Modern Warfare is a game where you have to get used to being killed every few seconds until you've progressed a bit through the ranks. In Battlefield 3 you get the chance to learn how to play the game in multiplayer, learn tactics and learn how to play as part of a team. Add different player classes, different weapons and the option to drive tanks, pilot helicopters or attack jets and Battlefield is a clear winner when it comes to multiplayer.

There are downsides but this down to Electronic Arts - not the game itself. Don't buy the game secondhand as it will cost you 800 points to be able to play multiplayer if the previous owner has already redeemed the online code. Don't expect a manual in the case either.

This blatant EA profiteering aside, Battlefield 3 is a fantastic game.
